On July 16th, 2022 Team Isla will swim 11.5 miles across Lake Tahoe in the Trans Tahoe Swim Relay to raise money in support of Rett Syndrome Research Trust (RSRT)! We are a team of friends, brought together by our love of swimming, bonded over the decades by supporting each other through life’s triumphs and challenges. We will brave the cold waters and great distance of Lake Tahoe to raise funds to support our teammate’s 7-year-old daughter Isla Doyle, and every kid with Rett Syndrome.
Isla is a 7-year-old girl with Rett Syndrome, a rare genetic neurological disorder that leaves her incapable of using her own body as she wants to. Isla is unable to speak, walk, or use her hands purposefully. Though Rett Syndrome impacts all parts of Isla’s body, it has not diminished her spunky personality, surprising sense of humor, eagerness to learn, and determination to do more. Her tireless spirit gives us hope that research funded by RSRT can soon have a meaningful impact on the quality of life for Isla and people with Rett Syndrome.
RSRT is an organization with a mission to make curative genetic treatments for Rett Syndrome a reality. Since Rett Syndrome is a rare disorder, research is under-funded, so this mission relies upon us. RSRT is spearheading six promising scientific approaches that attack the disorder at its genetic core and anticipate clinical trials to begin in the next year!
We are so grateful for the joy, friendships, and challenges we get to experience because our bodies work the way we want. On July 16th we get to use these gifts to swim for Isla so that one day she too can experience a body that works for her too. Join us in giving Isla the possibility of breaking free from a body trapped by Rett Syndrome by making a donation to RSRT today.
Sincerely,
TEAM ISLA:
Andrew Chadeayne, Tara Chadeayne, Andrew King, Jim Sullivan, Jamie Holder, Sean Doyle
