We’re so excited and grateful that Kate Danser is running the Boston Marathon on April 15 to raise funds and awareness for the Rett Syndrome Research Trust (RSRT).
Kate is an avid and experienced runner. This will be her eighth marathon, but first Boston! The cause is extremely personal because her partner, Tim Freeman, has a daughter, Eleanor, who has Rett syndrome. Kate is running for Eleanor, but not only for Eleanor. The charity bib number that Kate is running with generously came from Tony and Kathy Schoener, parents of Kelly, also afflicted with Rett.
As Tony, who is also chair of the RSRT board, says: “We couldn’t be more thrilled that Kate is running the Boston Marathon for Eleanor, Kelly, and 350,000 other children and adults who struggle so bravely and resolutely with this severe neurological disorder. Rett syndrome has robbed Tim’s daughter and our daughter of the ability to speak and walk. Kate jumped in to fight for them, to use her voice and her legs to advocate for them and make a difference to RSRT’s research that could change their lives.”
Every donation made to Kate’s run goes directly to RSRT to fuel its research program, which has made remarkable progress in recent years. Multiple clinical trials in gene therapy, which seeks to correct the underlying genetic cause of Rett syndrome, are now underway. RSRT is also advancing other approaches that offer the possibility of a profound reversal of Rett syndrome’s symptoms. Anything you contribute is deeply appreciated, and most importantly, builds on the exciting research momentum that moves us closer to changing Eleanor’s and Kelly’s lives and so many other lives.
