On October 1st, our precious daughter Natalie Juliet was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called Rett Syndrome. Coincidentally, October is also Rett Syndrome Awareness month.
Corey and I welcomed our beautiful baby girl Natalie to the world on August 11, 2016. Big sister Charlotte has been by her side from day one. Robbie, Natalie’s rambunctious two-year-old brother, enjoys chasing her and sneaking her snacks when he isn’t supposed to.
Despite all of her challenges, Natalie is a happy, active six-year-old who loves to swim, run and play outdoors with her siblings and family. She has a major sweet tooth and loves to indulge. Although Natalie has very little verbal language, she connects with those around her in her own way.
While we don’t know what Natalie’s future holds, we do know that science has made significant advances in identifying the cause of this syndrome and we remain hopeful that with time Rett will become a reversible and curable disease in the near future.
