Friends and family,
What a year it has been. Since Natalie’s Rett syndrome diagnosis at age five, we are still trying to comprehend how such a cruel illness could possibly exist. In just a few weeks Natalie will be turning eight years old. Our only wish for her is that each day will get easier and that she can reclaim a childhood free from the profound complications that come along with her diagnosis.
Natalie continues to amaze us and find joy in the simple things; wind in her face, an afternoon spent swimming, music, and good food. However, she is held back from living the life she deserves when Rett syndrome rears its ugly head. I’ll spare you the details on that one.
During a recent hospital stay, when Natalie experienced her first seizures, we were brought back to the harsh reality of this impossible situation. Watching our daughter experience this brought us to our knees. It was heart shattering.
Hope, however, is not a strategy. Genetic medicine is the answer. We are so thankful that those before us have paved the way for these treatments, and that multiple clinical trials are underway. This momentum will not continue without resources needed to push the science forward.
Time is not on our side; we need a cure today. Every dollar donated to Rett Syndrome Research Trust in honor of Natalie is used to propel research and an eventual cure.
