For those of you who don't know, I am running the New York City Half Marathon on Sunday, March 18. I have a goal of beating 2 hours, but I also want to make this run mean something. That's why I have decided to run for Molly Foley and every little girl who is effected by Rett Syndrome. Rett Syndrome is a serious, lifelong neurological disorder that is caused by a genetic mutation. Almost exclusively impacting girls, symptoms appear in toddlerhood. Many are unable to speak, walk, or use their hands. They experience breathing problems, seizures, difficulties eating, among other gastrointestinal and orthopedic issues. Their life expectancy is also significantly shorter than the normal population. 1 in approximately 10,000 girls born has Rett Syndrome. In addition, boys born with Rett Syndrome generally do not survive infancy.

But there's hope. The Rett Syndrome Research Trust and its affiliates have discovered that Rett Syndrome stands apart from other neurological disorders due to the dramatic reversibility of symptoms in scientific models. This research is what the Rett Syndrome Research Trust is helping to drive, and with our help they can reach their goal of curing these young girls and giving them a chance at LIFE. Every little bit counts, and we can help create a Rett-free world.

My run will support the event Miracle for Molly, which is a charity event near Philadelphia run by my good friends, Molly's parents - Greg and Danielle Foley. Last year, Miracle for Molly raised almost $85,000 for the Rett Syndrome Research Trust, directly impacting this valuable research and these hopeful and wonderful children.

Please donate via my fundraiser page here and 100% of the proceeds will benefit Miracle for Molly. All donations are tax deductible.

If you are able to help me reach my goal of $1,000, in honor of Molly's favorite basketball team, the Villanova Wildcats, I will DECK myself out in Villanova gear for the Half Marathon. I can't do it without your help!

If anyone has any questions, please reach out to me directly.

I appreciate your support

What is Rett Syndrome?

Rett Syndrome is serious lifelong neurological disorder that is caused by random mutations in a gene called MECP2. Diagnosed almost exclusively in girls, symptoms typically appear in toddlerhood. Many children with Rett are unable to speak, walk or use their hands. Breathing problems, feeding tubes, seizures, anxiety, gastrointestinal and orthopedic issues are common.

Despite the debilitating nature of the disorder our girls are so much more than a laundry list of symptoms. Their beauty and their strength inspire and motivate us.

Rett Syndrome stands apart from other neurological disorders due to the dramatic reversibility of symptoms in animal models. Our confidence that Rett Syndrome is curable guides our every decision.

Who is RSRT?

The Rett Syndrome Research Trust (RSRT) was launched in 2008 with a singular goal: to drive the development of treatments and cures for Rett Syndrome and related MECP2 disorders. As one of the few neurological disorders to demonstrate dramatic symptom reversal in the lab, Rett Syndrome has captured the attention of the world's premiere university and pharmaceutical industry scientists. RSRT is operating at the nexus of this activity, leading and advancing the research agenda.

By funding the most Rett research worldwide, $35 million since 2008, we strive to put ourselves out of business as soon as possible.
