This is the 4th year & fundraising campaign my wife, Brenna, and I have coordinated since our beautiful daughter Gisele’s diagnosis of Rett Syndrome in September 2014.

First and foremost, we want to extend our most sincere gratitude to everyone that has donated in years past, many of you who have supported the cause each year. Please know that your donations now and from years past ARE making a huge difference in the research to cure and treat this life-changing neurological syndrome.

Secondly, since Rett Syndrome is a “rare disease” that affects only 1 in 10,000 females (approx. 350,000 worldwide), awareness and subsequently funding for research has been underfunded for too long especially given the severity of Rett and the lifelong challenges and costs that women and their families must confront. Potentially making fundraising for rare diseases like Rett Syndrome more difficult is the Federal tax bill as currently drafting by this Congress eliminates several tax incentives for research conducted by for-profit biotech & pharmaceutical companies. Eliminating the tax break will make financing treatments and cures less attractive. Thus, EVERY DOLLAR donated helps!

We're making progress, but we need $$$ to get to the finish line sooner. Help us cure our beautiful daughter Gisele, and over 350,000 girls and women like her.

Thank you!

Mike (MJ) & Brenna Johnson

P.S. For every dollar donated, we will match 25% up to $50,000 (= match of $12,500).

P.P.S. RSRT’s overhead is incredibly low, 95-96% of every dollar raised goes DIRECTLY to fund research

What is Rett Syndrome?

Rett Syndrome is serious lifelong neurological disorder that is caused by random mutations in a gene called MECP2. Diagnosed almost exclusively in girls, symptoms typically appear in toddlerhood. Many children with Rett are unable to speak, walk or use their hands. Breathing problems, feeding tubes, seizures, anxiety, gastrointestinal and orthopedic issues are common.

Despite the debilitating nature of the disorder our girls are so much more than a laundry list of symptoms. Their beauty and their strength inspire and motivate us.

Rett Syndrome stands apart from other neurological disorders due to the dramatic reversibility of symptoms in animal models. Our confidence that Rett Syndrome is curable guides our every decision.

Who is RSRT?

The Rett Syndrome Research Trust (RSRT) was launched in 2008 with a singular goal: to drive the development of treatments and cures for Rett Syndrome and related MECP2 disorders. As one of the few neurological disorders to demonstrate dramatic symptom reversal in the lab, Rett Syndrome has captured the attention of the world's premiere university and pharmaceutical industry scientists. RSRT is operating at the nexus of this activity, leading and advancing the research agenda.

By funding the most Rett research worldwide, $35 million since 2008, we strive to put ourselves out of business as soon as possible.
